Background
While some critical infrastructure requires long range diver detection sonars, in other cases the need is only for short to medium ranges of detection. Such is the case when dealing with narrow canals, water intake areas and vessel protection. In all of these examples the confined surroundings or the requirement for system mobility defines a lighter, portable application.
With the goal to answer these specific requirements, DSIT has introduced a new member of its Shield family of underwater security systems - the PointShield™.
A Lightweight Portable Diver Detection Sonar
The PointShield™ Portable Diver Detection Sonar (PDDS) is a lightweight, compact portable diver detection sonar system designed for rapid deployment to protect vessels at anchor and small underwater areas. The PointShield™ provides the same accurate automatic operation as its bigger brother, the AquaShield™ DDS, for situations in which a short to medium range system is required.
The PointShield™ can be easily and rapidly deployed by 1-2 persons only. At the same time, it is a rugged system that can withstand rough waters and long term, continuous underwater operation making it ideal for permanent installations as well. Multiple methods of system installation are available: seabed, pier, tripod, mooring pile, etc.

Enhanced Flexibility
The PointShield™ boasts a unique modular design that enables tailoring of the system to customer requirements and site specific geography. Based upon the customer specific requirements, the system is offered in 4 sector coverage configurations:
• 90° of horizontal coverage
• 180° of horizontal coverage
• 270° of horizontal coverage
• 360° of horizontal coverage
This new tough but light DDS offers detection for even the weakest of targets, and can easily handle hundreds of targets simultaneously. DSIT has taken pains to ensure the same winning features in the PointShield™ that have made the AquaShield™ name synonymous with underwater site security:
